The Sponsors
History of the Tournament
The 1st Annual Khalif Sickle Cell Golf Tournament was held in 1979, under the leadership of the late Past Potentate Freddie Bowden and the Khalif Divan. The tournament has grown in many ways over the past 33 years. As a result of dedicated service from both Khalif Temple (Nobles) and Khalif Court (Daughters), the Khalif Foundation has donated over three hundred thirty thousand dollars ($330,000) to Piedmont Health Services and Sickle Cell Agency.
While the tournament has been supported by many local businesses over the years, the major sponsors have been and continue to be Bill Black Cadillac Chevrolet, Inc. and DeJas Management, Inc. (James “Smitty” Smith and Family), owner of several McDonalds restaurants in Greensboro.
Because of the tournament’s major sponsors, Khalif Foundation has been able to expand its mission to include a Youth Golf Clinic, held each year as a part of the annual event. This clinic not only provides golf training for youth, but also tracks and supports their progress in between clinics.
The Bryan Park Golf Course and it staff has also been a staple in what it takes to consistently host the first class tournament the Khalif Sickle Cell Golf Tournament has become.
